Police believe the car was travelling east on the highway before crashing shortly before 2am (AEST).

The 19-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and a 24-year-old Daisy Hill man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Centenary Highway was closed in both directions for several hours, however the westbound lanes have now reopened.

Drivers heading into Brisbane are advised to find an alternate route.
