A man accused of stabbing his partner to death in Sydney has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Ratu Joji Serutawake pleaded not guilty at the NSW Supreme Court on Friday to the murder of Adi Cavora Baleimalea Bole Tavuki, 22, at North Narrabeen on October 21, 2012.

Police have previously alleged that Serutawake, then 29, stabbed his partner while their 13-month-old baby slept in another room.

Serutawake's defence team said they plan to show he acted in self defence or in self defence of another.

His trial will commence on October 20 and is expected to last two weeks.
