Man 'carrying knives and hammer' shot dead in Sydney's south
A Sydney man allegedly armed with knives and a hammer was shot dead after he threatened NSW police.
A "critical incident investigation" has been launched into the fatal shooting in Rockdale, in Sydney's south, according to a NSW Police statement.
St George Police Area Command were alerted just before midnight following "concerns for the welfare of a man".

Police, aided by dogs and a chopper, searched nearby bushland.
Around 1am, a 51-year-old man allegedly armed with knives and a hammer threatened police and was shot.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.
A critical incident team from the Homicide Squad will now investigate the incident.
The state coroner will review the investigation.
