Man critical after hit by car in Victoria

A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car following an argument between the driver and a group of people at a Victorian home.

Police allege the group armed themselves with metal rods or bars and approached the driver after he "exchanged words" with a number of people gathered at a Seymour home about 1am (AEDT) on Tuesday.

The man drove off with the group of men following behind on foot, police said.

The driver did a U-turn and drove back towards the group, allegedly hitting a man aged in his 30s.

Officers later arrested a 30-year-old Seymour man who police say is assisting with their inquiries.

The injured man remains in a critical condition in The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

Police believe the parties are known to each other and say the investigation is continuing.
