Man fighting for life after chemical explosion at Adelaide factory

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious burns in a factory explosion in Adelaide's north.

The 29-year-old worker sustained burns to his upper body in the blast at a Maxiplas factory in Edinburgh last night.

He remains in a critical condition at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

A second worker also sustained burns.

The workers were treated by MedSTAR specialist nurses at the scene before being transferred to hospital.

The Maxiplas factory makes rain water tanks using injection moulding technology.

It is believed chemicals used in this process caused the explosion.

The two workers are understood to have been using the chemical when it ignited just after 7pm, authorities believe.

Safework SA is investigating.

Staff are expected to resume work at the factory later today.
