Man charged with Sydney theft, carjacking

A thief who allegedly broke into a Sydney CBD business then robbed and carjacked a man at knifepoint will face court.

The man, 42, first tried to break into a business on Kent Street about 4.15am on Monday, police said in a statement.

At around 9am, the man ran from the premises with a knife and confronted a 61-year-old man who was parking his car nearby.

He threatened the driver with the knife and forced him to drive to Kings Cross and withdraw money from an ATM.

Soon after a witness alerted police who arrested the man.

He was charged with break and enter, carjacking, robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, detain person with intent to obtain advantage and breach of bail.

The man will face Sydney Central Local Court on Tuesday.
