No bail for man accused of stabbing cabbie

A man accused of stabbing a Sydney taxi driver 10 times will remain behind bars.

Luke William Woods appeared briefly at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday via video link charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

It is alleged the 34-year-old stabbed 71-year-old cab driver Neil Kent multiple times in the neck and shoulder at around 11.30pm (AEDT) on December 30.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, Mr Kent was found sitting in his cab.

He was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital where he was placed in an induced coma, police say.

He is now in a stable condition, a hospital spokesperson told AAP on Sunday.

Following an investigation, Woods was arrested and charged on Saturday.

He will undergo a psychiatric assessment.

He is due to appear again via video link at Central Local Court on February 25.
