Man charged with pouring boiling water over Daniel Morcombe's killer says he was ‘doing it for the people’

A 30-year-old man has faced court after allegedly throwing boiling water over Daniel Morcombe’s killer Brett Peter Cowan in a Brisbane correctional facility.

Adam Paul Davidson was charged with grievous bodily harm after he allegedly filled a mop bucket with boiling water and tipped it over Cowan, before beating him with it, inside the Wolston Correctional Centre last month.

Inside court today, Davidson stood up and said he was “doing it for the people”.

“We as a society, no matter what we might think of him [Cowan] as a person, still have an obligation to ensure his safety,” Queensland Law Society’s Bill Potts told 9NEWS.

Davidson did not enter a formal plea and will face court again next month.

Queensland police said they would not be making any more arrests in relation to the alleged attack, despite claims there were several prisoners involved.

Cowan is serving a life sentence for the 2003 murder of Sunshine Coast schoolboy Daniel Morcombe.

He is now back in protective custody after being treated for serious injuries in hospital.
