Man allegedly shot former schoolmate he 'suspected of being a police informant'

A man who allegedly shot his former school mate because he believed he was a police informant has briefly appeared in court on a murder charge.

Luke Cunningham, 21, of Nundah in Brisbane's north, allegedly shot his former schoolmate 24-year-old Jacob Bell just after midnight on Friday at a unit at Petrie, north of Brisbane.

Bell died a short time later in hospital.

It's alleged that Bell had gone to the unit to try to sort out a dispute between the pair.

9NEWS understands Mr Cunningham allegedly fired the fatal shot from the top of the stairs when Bell entered the home, because he suspected Bell of being a police informant.

Mr Cunningham was arrested last night and charged with murder and enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence.

He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning where he was remanded in custody.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Mark Gorton told the court a number of forensic tests were yet to be completed, but that statements from witnesses who saw the alleged attack had been finalised.

The matter will be mentioned in court again on June 11.
