A man has been charged with attempted murder, rape, torture, deprivation of liberty and other serious offences after a woman was found with her throat cut in north Queensland.

Police were called to a property on Granadilla Road in El Arish at 7am yesterday morning following reports a woman had been seriously assaulted.

The woman, 32, was found to have serious stab wounds on her throat and she was rushed to Tully Hospital before being airlifted to Cairns Hospital.

She remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 66-year-old man was charged with one count each of attempt to murder, attempt to commit rape, torture and producing dangerous drugs.

He was also charged with two counts each of rape and sexual assault and four counts of deprivation of liberty.

Police allegedly unconvered a cannabis plantation on the property while investigating the scene.

The man is due to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court this morning.
