Sydney man denied bail after alleged road rage stabbing

A man has hung his head as he was denied bail after allegedly stabbing a father in front of his child in a “road rage” incident in Sydney’s west.

Ahmed Salami appeared via video link in Mound Druitt Court today facing charges of knowingly driving in a manner that menaces others, reckless wounding and intentionally throwing an object at another vehicle.

Police allege the 22-year-old threw a bar of soap at Frank Sant as the Sydney father drove a grey Toyota Hilux with his family on the M7 in Glendenning on the afternoon of November 30.

The two men came to a stop on the busy motorway and were recorded by witnesses trading insults and blows before Mr Salami allegedly produced a small knife and injured the older driver.

The Punchbowl man told police he got out of his Toyota Corolla with a pocket knife as he felt “trapped and vulnerable” in the hostile situation.

The prosecution told the court the 22-year-old’s action were “excessive”.

Mr Salami’s lawyer said he would fight the charges.

“Was his behaviour out of character? Absolutely, and he denied the conduct,” he told 9News outside court.

Mr Salami was formally denied bail after his arrest yesterday.

He will re-appear in court in January.
