A man has been charged over the death of a surfer in Manly earlier this year, just days after the victim's brother made an emotional appeal to the public.

Guy Haymes, 59, was found with serious head injuries inside a unit on Pittwater Road following an alleged assault on February 27.

Haymes, known locally as "Creature", was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on March 15.

NSW Police established Strike Force Flat in March to investigate the alleged assault and Guy's subsequent death.

Mark Haymes on Tuesday joined police to call for anybody who had information about his brother's death to come forward.

"It's been pretty hard, just not knowing what happened that day," he said.

Police arrested Jayson Brett Dal Molin, 41, about 7pm yesterday in Greenacre.
