Man charged over one-punch attack on another man
A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being seriously assaulted by another man in Newcastle yesterday.
Just before 6.30pm, an altercation took place outside a licensed premises on Wharf Road, in central Newcastle, involving two men.
During the altercation, a 45-year-old man was allegedly punched once to the face.
He fell to the ground, hitting his head on the concrete and losing consciousness.
The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
He remains in a critical but stable condition.
A 43-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station.
He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It is believed the men are known to each other and were drinking earlier in the day.
