A man has been charged over the stabbing of two men in Sydney's southwest last year.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man in a Bankstown cafe late on Saturday and charged him with affray and two counts of cause wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

He was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Bail Court, where he was remanded in custody to appear in Central Local Court on Tuesday.

The charges relate to an incident in Bankstown in December in which two men were accosted by a group and one of them, an 18-year-old, allegedly grabbed and punched several times before being stabbed in the back.

The other man, a 23-year-old, needed emergency surgery at Liverpool Hospital to stab wounds to his arm and chest.
