Father charged after two-year-old assaulted in Sydney's northwest

A 38-year-old man has been charged after his two-year-old son was critically injured in North Rocks.

The man, believed to be the biological father of the boy, was arrested by police on Friday night.

Detectives from the NSW Police's Child Abuse Squad charged him with grievous bodily harm with intent.

The man was refused bail in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday and is expected to front court again on Wednesday.

The two year old who lived at home with his mother, father and brother in North Rocks was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital on Wednesday with significant injuries to his head and body.

He is still in a critical condition.
