Man charged after $15 million worth of meth found in Darwin

A 51-year-old Sydney man had been arrested and charged, after more than 23kg of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $15.4 million was seized as part of a joint agency police operation.

Acting on intelligence, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers tracked a package to the port of Darwin on November 19.

Upon further investigation, the package was found to contain a fridge, within which smaller packages of crystal meth with a combined weight of around 23kg had been hidden.

Police allege a 51-year-old man believed to be linked to the drug stash collected a consignment from Sydney depot on December 7, before returning to his Georges Hall home in south-west Sydney.

Officers from Joint Taskforce Nemesis subsequently conducted a search on the property on December 9, during which they allegedly discovered fraudulent documents, $6700 cash and three kilograms of a substance suspected to be crystal meth.

The man is expected to front Sydney Central Local Court today, charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.
