Man blocks NSW rail line for three hours

A man's car has blocked a railway line in NSW's Hunter Valley for three hours after he veered off the road and drove off a six-metre embankment.

The man and his female passenger found themselves stuck on the Northern Railway Line at Martins Creek just after midnight (AEDT) on Saturday.

The 32-year-old man had allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp bend and had veered off the road.

The car then drove off the six-metre embankment before coming to rest on the railway line, police say.

Emergency services were called and the line was closed for about three hours while the car was removed, police say.

The two were uninjured and the man returned a negative roadside breath test.

But the driver was issued an infringement notice for negligent driving.
