Man bitten by brown snake on Surfers Paradise beach

A man was rushed to hospital after being bitten by a snake – believed to be a brown snake – on a Surfers Paradise beach today.

The 31-year-old was treated by lifeguards at the scene before paramedics arrived.

“As time went on he was feeling a little bit worse for wear, but fortunately the ambos did get there quickly,” senior lifeguard Scott Franzmann said.

Authorities have warned the warmer weather could lead to more snakes basking in sand dunes.

On Monday, snake-catchers warned of a particularly busy snake mating season this summer.
