Man bashed with bar stool at Qld pub

A street gang is believed to be behind a violent attack at a Gold Coast tavern in which a patron was bashed with a bar stool.

Police say four men entered the Currumbin Creek Tavern and assaulted four unsuspecting people sitting at a bar just before closing time on Saturday night.

Superintendent Jim Keogh said one man was held down and bashed with a bar stool in what he described as an "unprovoked" attack that lasted 40 seconds.

"Investigations so far would indicate that no conversation took place so there is no real motive as to why these offenders came in at closing time and attacked these poor patrons," he told reporters on Wednesday.

One of the patrons suffered head injuries and spent the night in hospital.

Supt Keogh says police are investigating whether a youth gang is responsible.
