Man attacked with axe during robbery of Malvern East home

A 24-year-old man has suffered serious stab wounds to his upper body after confronting a group of robbers at his house in Malvern East.

Paramedics and police were called to Capon Street about 11.45am to reports of a burglary.

Police have been told around three to five men broke into the house, and one of the men assaulted the occupant with an axe.

The group fled the scene in a car parked nearby, and are still on the run.

The victim has been taken to the Alfred Hospital with serious injuries.
