Man attacked on popular Sunshine Coast street

Police are investigating the assault of a Queensland man on the Sunshine Coast, who is currently in hospital with serious injuries.

It's believed around 2am, multiple men got into a fight at Noosa heads on Hastings Street.

Police allege that during the brawl, a 29-year-old Buderim man was knocked to the ground, and kicked repeatedly in the head.

The man was transported to hospital with serious facial injuries.

Detectives from the Sunshine Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the incident.

The men believed to be involved have been captured on CCTV footage, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.

Sunshine Coast District CIB Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield condemned the violent behaviour.

"Everyone deserves to make it home safe from a night out," Detective Senior Sergeant Mansfield said.

"Assaults of this nature, especially those resulting in head injuries, can lead to life-long consequences for both offenders and victims. One punch or kick or push really can kill.

"With New Year's Eve around the corner, I would strongly discourage anyone taking part in this sort of reckless behaviour."
