Man arrested after allegedly spitting in police officer's face during Adelaide pursuit

A man is behind bars after allegedly spitting in a police officer's face following a police pursuit in Adelaide's south overnight.

A police helicopter and Dog Squad had to be called to help track down the accused, after he failed to stop for police just south of the city's CBD last night.

A police car chase ensued, before the man allegedly dumped his car and fled for several kilometres on foot.

The 31-year-old then climbed a tree to hide from police but was tracked down by the Dog Squad.

The man is alleged to have spat at one of the officers following his arrest.

Nearby residents have expressed their disgust at the man's behaviour, particularly in light of current social distancing restrictions in force to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"It's not particularly pleasant, particularly with COVID-19 around at the moment," one Adelaide resident told 9News.

The accused has been refused police bail and will appear in court today.
