Man makes full confession to 2014 murder of Melbourne woman Rani Featherston

A man arrested and charged yesterday with the murder of Melbourne woman Rani Featherston has made a full confession to the 2014 killing.

Christian Bain-Singh, 22, allegedly stabbed the 34-year-old woman in the face and neck on April 2, 2014.

She was found dead in a pool of blood in an industrial area on Lace Street in Doveton, just 500m from her home.

Mr Bain-Singh, from Clyde North, did not apply for bail during a court appearance yesterday and sat quietly in the court.

He has been charged with Ms Featherston’s murder, as well as attempted murder over an alleged aggravated burglary in March 2014.

He will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

Just two weeks ago, Ms Featherston’s family participated in a memorial walk to the scene where her body was found.

Broadcaster Derryn Hinch attended the walk and the family laid flowers and held a minute’s silence in remembrance of Ms Featherston, and all victims of violence clad in her favourite colour, purple.

Her brother Aaron described Rani as his "best friend".
