Man arrested in Bali for alleged attempted rape of Australian schoolie

A man has been arrested in Bali for allegedly attempting to rape an Australian girl visiting the island for schoolies.

The man, reportedly a British citizen, is at police headquarters in Denpasar, the West Australian reports.

The suspect was arrested by local police at the Sky Garden night club, the victim report said.

The news comes after Queensland police labelled the behaviour of the 25,000 school leavers who swarmed to the Gold Coast “exemplary”.

Only 37 people were arrested since the schoolies week began on November 20, almost 200 less than last year, police said.

“This year saw a significant drop in arrests across Schoolies Week, with 199 fewer total arrests than last year,” Gold Coast Inspector Damien Crosby said.

Insp. Crosby denied police had taken a softer approach to arrests this year.

“With a few exceptions, the behaviour of the schoolies was exemplary,” he said.
