Man barricades woman and child inside unit

A man has been arrested after allegedly barricading himself inside a unit in the Beachcomber Resort in Surfers Paradise with a woman and child.

Police declared an emergency situation on Hanlan Street and began evacuating units about 4.30pm after reports a man inside the hotel was armed.

Police were able to safely remove the woman, believed to be aged in her 20s, and a four-year-old boy, when the man went out on the balcony.

After 25 minutes of negotiating, police arrested a 36-year-old man and seized three replica firearms.

The man is expected to be charged with domestic violence offences.
