Man arrested during live television news cross

A man has chosen the worst possible service station to allegedly steal from, inadvertently targeting a police command post that had been set up for missing Gold Coast five-year-old Jocelyn Lewis.

The man's arrest was captured in the background of a live Ten News cross, while the reporter informed viewers that young Jocelyn had been found safe and well.

Two police officers were still on the scene when staff inside the Southport 7/11 petrol station told them they recognised the alleged thief from previous incidents.

The 20-year-old man was charged with two counts of stealing and one count of public nuisance and obstructing justice.

A 19-year-old woman, who was with the man and parked in a vehicle at one of the petrol bowsers, was charged with drug offences and possession of a knife.

Both are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 12.
