Man charged over alleged stabbing of two NSW mums in caravan park machete attack

A man has been charged after an alleged machete attack on two women at a NSW South Coast caravan park.

The women, Caitlin Grayson, 25, and Suzie Baker, 37, suffered stab wounds to the head and arms in last night's alleged attack at a popular Lake Conjola campsite.

Ms Grayson also received injuries to her buttocks and legs.

The women were treated at a campsite before being taken to Shoalhaven Hospital.

Ms Grayson has since been transferred to Wollongong Hospital further treatment. Both are in a stable condition.

A 31-year-old man, identified as Ms Baker’s estranged partner, allegedly sped off in a Nissan Elgrand van.

Police engaged in high-speed pursuit around 9.20pm but soon abandoned it due to safety concerns.

The man was found minutes later at 9.40pm trapped in his vehicle, after crashing it into a tree at Nowra.

He was freed by emergency workers and taken to St George Hospital with non-life-threatening internal injuries.

The man has since been charged with nine offences, including one count of causing wounding with intent to murder and two counts of wounding person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

His behaviour was found to also be in breach of an apprehended violence order.

He was refused bail at a bedside hearing today and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow.

Holiday makers have told 9NEWS of their attempts to help the injured women.

They have described both Ms Grayson and Ms Baker as being “in shock” following the alleged attack.

Police subsequently launched an investigation, conducting interviews with residents and management today.
