Man armed with suspected rifle fires shot in Oxley hotel

A man believed to be armed with a rifle has tried to rob a hotel in Brisbane's south-west, firing a shot into its ceiling and eventually fleeing empty-handed.

The man entered the Oxley Hotel on Oxley Road about 9.45pm yesterday, and demanded money before shooting his weapon into the ceiling, police said.

He then fled the scene.

Police were called and patrolled the area, but failed to find him.

He is described as being aged between 20 and 30, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and had a white cloth over his face.

Police believe he may be travelling in a dark ute or on a motorcycle.

No one was injured in the incident.
