Driver ‘hit cop while fleeing RBT’

A man allegedly trying to flee an RBT station after returning a positive drug test struck a female officer as he sped away.

Police allege 22-year-old Keanu Hughes was trying to escape from a random testing station on Old Port Road in Adelaide at about 9am.

Patrols chased the car for more than eight kilometres, with police claiming it reached speeds of up to 120km/hr.

The car finally slid off the road and into a tree on West Lakes Boulevard.

Officers swarmed the vehicle and used pepper spray to arrest the driver.

Mr Hughes was charged with endangering life, evading police and driving while disqualified.

A female passenger was released without charge.

Hughes was refused bail in court this afternoon.

The female officer escaped serious injury.
