Man admits causing Vic triple fatal crash

A Brazilian man has admitted causing a Melbourne crash that killed a pedestrian and an elderly couple.

Nei Lima DaCosta, 30, ran down pedestrian Anthony Parsons, before losing control of his car and ploughing into a Ford sedan, killing married couple Inimi and Savvas Menelaou.

Another three people were seriously injured in the Oakleigh crash on January 12, including the Menelaous' son and Mr Parsons' wife Sue.

DaCosta on Monday pleaded guilty to three charges of culpable driving causing death.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court has been told he ran several red lights and was travelling at 120km/h - 40km/h over the speed limit - when he hit Mr Parsons.

A bail hearing in January was told DaCosta was found with the drug ice in his system when tested after the crash.

Defence lawyer Lisa Mendicino at the time said DaCosta, who has a wife and infant daughter, wanted to sort out his affairs before entering custody.

"He knows it's of certainty that he will be spending a lot of time in jail," she said.

In denying bail in January, Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg said DaCosta posed a risk to the community.

"You exhibited a blatant disregard for the rules that govern the use of our roads," he said.

DaCosta also pleaded guilty to three counts of negligently causing serious injury and one count of reckless conduct endangering life.

He was remanded in custody to face a pre-sentence hearing in the Victorian Supreme Court on April 7.
