Man accused of driving erratically down Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall charged

A man accused of driving erratically down Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall last week has been charged with a string of driving offences.

Bryce O'Donnell, 20, was arrested by police in Ballarat yesterday afternoon after an extensive manhunt.

Investigators allege Mr O'Donnell dangerously drove a Mitsubishi Lancer along the tram tracks of the mall before crashing into a bollard just before 5pm on January 28.

He then allegedly fled the scene following the crash, with the car later found dumped on Ashworth Street in Albert Park without a number plate.

Mr O'Donnell was interviewed by detectives and charged with a number of offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, failing to stop on police request, reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, contravening a conduct condition of bail, committing an indictable offence while on bail, driving in a manner dangerous, driving while disqualified, careless driving, dangerous driving while being pursued by police and driving a vehicle causing loss of traction.

The Ballarat man has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
