Malcolm Turnbull donated more money to the Liberal party last year, than he has earned as Prime Minister.

Annual financial disclosure documents published this morning, confirmed Mr Turnbull as the largest individual donor, giving $1.75million to the party he leads.

Since taking office in September 2015, the Prime Minister has been paid roughly $1.26million plus allowances according to the independent remuneration tribunal’s figures.

Mr Turnbull had previously donated to the party, with party officials describing the latest donation as “very generous” and “critical to the campaign”.

Mr Turnbull and wife Lucy have long been noted philanthropists having also donated to numerous Australian charities.

The Liberal Party returned more than $95million in receipts, well ahead of Labor’s $70million.
