Koala comes under magpie attack at western Sydney school

A koala in Sydney's west was forced to make a dash for safety after it came under attack from a pair of magpies.

The normally lazy marsupial was filmed scurrying across an oval at Campbelltown East Primary School yesterday afternoon, the Macarthur Chronicle reports.

The eucalyptus-loving animal was sitting in a tree until magpies forced it out by swooping it repeatedly, Help Save the Wildlife and Bushland in Campbelltown Facebook page administrator Carla-Maree Simmons said.

"The magpies were trying to get to him in the tree but he was surrounded by branches so it was difficult for them to get to him," she said.

"When the koala got down, the poor thing was chased all the way to the reserve. He moved pretty damn quick."

The koala eventually made it to the safety of bushland at nearby Smiths Creek Reserve.
