Magpie's relentless attack on Queensland cyclist caught on camera

A Queensland man has captured a video of a determined magpie swooping him on his bicycle, but says he'd hate to see anything happen to his feathered nemesis.

Kevin Adamson, 62, used a camera to shoot footage of the attack on the Sunshine Coast, the Courier Mail has reported.

He said this particular magpie had been attacking him for three years, whenever he rides over the bridge the bird guards.

However, he maintains a great affection for the birds.

"Some people really hate them but I don't," he said.

"I love magpies. I just put up with it.

"I would hate something to happen to them."

He even said the bird's regular attacks might help keep him safer on the road, as drivers usually slowed down to watch the show.

"A couple of times I've been hit by various ones and had blood in my hair but it’s just been minor," he said.

"It's just nature isn't it?"

However, co-director of biking group Cycle, Dave Guyatt, said magpies could present a problem for cyclists as they distracted them and could even push them into traffic.

He said different coloured helmets seemed to have different effects.

"I've noticed since I've changed to a black and green helmet, there's definitely been a lesser number attacking me," he said.

"I used to wear a white helmet and I was getting peppered by them every time I went out."
