Food icon Maggie Beer hospitalised after fall

Food queen Maggie Beer is in hospital after a fall at her home in South Australia's Barossa Valley.

The 79-year-old suffered minor bone fractures in the incident.

Her husband Colin was luckily at home and was able to call for help.

Beer is expected to make a full recovery but has had to cancel some upcoming events.

"More than anything else, Maggie hates letting people down," the Beer family posted online.

"But she has multiple events and public engagements coming up that she may have to miss.

"She has asked us to apologise on her behalf to all those affected - and has asked for your patience as she recuperates."

They said her recovery "may take a while".

Beer was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2012 for "service to the tourism and hospitality industries as a cook, restaurateur and author, and to the promotion of Australian produce and cuisine".

She was promoted to an Officer of the Order of Australia 10 years later in 2022.
