Machete-wielding Gold Coast bandit still on the run

Queensland police say they are no closer to finding the masked man responsible for a bungled armed robbery on the Gold Coast.

The balaclava-clad robber stormed a convenience store in Labrador earlier this week armed with a machete.

Initial investigations indicate that around 7.25pm on Tuesday, the man entered the store on the corner of Government Road and Bellevue Parade.

He threatened workers and demanded cash but ran from the scene after the employees started hurling grocery items, kitchenware and a broom at him.

Queensland police Senior Sergeant Brett MacGibbon has warned people not to fight with armed offenders.

“We generally wouldn’t suggest people fight off with an offender, obviously this one was clearly armed with a machete,” he said.

It is the second time staff have had to chase off an armed thief out of that store.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance and was wearing grey shorts, a black hooded jumper with white printing on the hood and left sleeve. He was also wearing blue gloves.
