Dig at Lynette Dawson’s old home comes up empty

A dig in search of new evidence to establish what happened to missing mother Lynette Dawson has come up empty.

Investigators began searching Ms Dawson's former home at Bayview on Sydney's Northern Beaches last Wednesday, with the operation finishing today.

Police confirmed they have not found any of Ms Dawson's remains or any items of interest to the investigation.

Ms Dawson vanished in 1982, days before her husband, PE teacher Chris Dawson, moved a 16-year-old student he'd been having an affair with into their home.

The mother-of-two has never been found.

Two coronial inquests found Mr Dawson had killed her, but he has maintained his innocence and never been charged.

He claimed Ms Dawson had abandoned the family.

The cold case has been thrust back into the spotlight by a podcast, Teacher’s Pet, which has been downloaded by millions around the world.

Earlier this year, homicide squad commander Scott Cook wrote to the Director of the Department of Public Prosecutions requesting a review of the evidence in the case, which he claimed had increased since the establishment of Strike Force Scriven in 2015.

Last week, police said they were "confident" they could proceed to lay murder charges even if Ms Dawson's remains were not found.
