Lucky dog survives 20m plunge down western Sydney cliff

A Russian wolfhound who ventured from his Campbelltown home has been lucky to survive, after he tumbled 20 metres down a cliff and broke his pelvis.

Owner Maciek Finch went searching for his dog Morgan and saw him lying at the bottom of the cliff this morning.

He called emergency services for assistance after he realised he would not be able to retrieve the injured canine himself.

"Because he's big and white, we saw him. If he was behind a rock ledge then he'd stay there, probably forever," Mr Finch told 9NEWS.

Morgan had to be winched to safety before he was whisked away to a vet, who found the dog had broken his pelvis in the fall.

The injury means he won't be able to wander from home anytime soon.

"He's very, very lucky," Mr Finch said.

Mr Finch also thanked the rescue staff who helped Morgan to safety.
