‘Lucky charm’ ball boy’s prediction for tonight might worry Aussies

China’s “lucky charm” ball boy Stephen White has a prediction for tonight’s Asian Cup quarter final match – and it’s not going to make Australian fans happy.

Stephen, 12, was dubbed a lucky mascot for the Chinese team when he gave some spot-on advice to the team’s goalie during their opening match.

The keeper dived left on a penalty after asking Stephen’s advice, and saved an important goal.

China went on to win that match, and Stephen thinks they will repeat the performance against the Socceroos tonight at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

“I think China are going to win – but it’s going to be really close,” he said.

But Stephen will not be on hand to dispense advice to either goalkeeper tonight, having been positioned at the halfway line.

Stephen plays goalkeeper himself, and hopes to play for the Socceroos one day.
