Loner PM has had training wheels: Kennett

Malcolm Turnbull is a loner who won the Liberal leadership a year ago without an economic plan, former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett believes.

On the first anniversary of Mr Turnbull's rise to the top job, Mr Kennett is urging him to work with his predecessor Tony Abbott and to take advice from "mere mortals".

"Turnbull has had his training wheels spinning for the last 12 months. He now needs to demonstrate that a Rhodes scholarship can be an important and contributing ingredient into meaningful political leadership," he writes in the Herald Sun on Wednesday.
