Masked bandits on run after storming Logan hotels with axe

Two masked men armed with an axe are on the run after robbing a hotel and trying to hold up another pub at Logan, south of Brisbane.

The bandits left empty-handed after confronting a security guard and a worker at the Chatswood Hills Tavern in Springwood about 3.30am.

Minutes later they raided a Fitzy's Hotel at Loganholme, demanding to be let into the safe.

When staff refused they took money from the till before fleeing with a sum of cash.

They remain at large.

Police say a stolen orange Holden Commodore sedan was seen leaving both premises.

It's believed the car was taken from a family home in Tarrigindi.

The same bandits are thought to have broken into a home in Yerronga but came undone when they left behind a stolen wallet. 

Police are urging anyone who saw the vehicle in the Logan area to come forward.
