Disgraced Logan Mayor Luke Smith has been released from custody after spending the weekend behind bars.

Smith is accused of assaulting his wife, damaging her windscreen and obstructing police during the violent altercation at his father’s home on Friday.

He appeared in court with a distinct bandage on his forehead covering a cut he sustained during a scuffle with police.

It is the second-time Smith has been arrested in as many months, after being charged by the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission with corruption and perjury.

He’s vowed to defend those charges but had been suspended from his role as Mayor in the meantime.

Mr Smith is being released this afternoon on strict conditions, including that he reside at his father’s home and not have any contact with his ex-wife.

The matter will return to court on August 21.
