Logan grandma's unit rendered uninhabitable by fake builder's ‘renovations’

A Logan grandmother has told 9NEWS her retirement unit has been ruined by a fake builder.

Carolyn Costin paid builder Brad Williams $26,000 to renovate her unit, but the expected renovation has instead rendered her home uninhabitable.

The building works will cost an estimated $70,000 to fix, with doors that don’t close, spray-painted bench-tops, new carpet laid over old carpet, and tiles stained with grout.

“I just put total trust and faith in the man and I’m just so surprised at what he’s done,” she said.

Ms Costin said Mr Williams produced a licence number, which she has since realised was fake.

Mr Williams has told 9NEWS he hopes to repay Ms Costin, but does not have the money.

Anyone hiring a builder has been urged to check their licence number with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.

Anyone who wishes to donate to CentroCentre Care’s fundraiser for Ms Costin can do so using the following bank details: BSB 034605, account number 480321, reference Costin.
