LNP would lose government based on by-election swing

The Newman government has suffered its second loss at the polls in the past year, with a significant swing delivering the Stafford by-election to Labor.

With 68.6 per cent of the vote was counted, LNP candidate Bob Andersen had experienced a 17.3 per cent primary vote swing against the party.

Mr Andersen was preselected as the LNP candidate for Stafford after previous MP Chris Davis resigned from the government over plans to introduce ‘doctor contracts.’

ALP candidate Anthony Lynham attracted 50.4 per cent of the primary vote, equating to a two-party preferred swing of 19.3 per cent.

If this swing were to be replicated across the state, the LNP would lose government at the next election, dropping around 48 seats.
