Tourism boost will benefit Queensland: Newman

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has committed a further $80 million to building jobs in tourism, including $60 million for a new Queensland First grant fund.

The money will be available for sporting events and competitions, as well as film and television productions in the Sunshine State.

Mr Newman said luring more big productions such as Hollywood film Pirates of the Caribbean 5 would bring economic and tourism benefits to Queensland.

However, he was also attacked today by radio host Alan Jones, who said Mr Newman and the LNP had “simply lied to the electorate”.

The broadcaster disapproves of the expansion of the Acland coal mine, which the Newman government had not initially supported.

However, the change came after the company reduced the footprint of the project by about 60 per cent.

The company has also donated more than $650,000 to the Liberal Party.
