A lost koala has been rescued after it was spotted scurrying along a street on the NSW Mid North-Coast.

A witness took out her phone to film the koala exploring Clarence St, in Port Macquarie as it made its way from shop to shop.

Cars came to a stop as it ran across the road, finally perching on a metal pole at the Glasshouse entertainment centre.

Rescuers from Port Macquarie Koala Hospital came to the scene and took the koala away from danger.

The rescuers gave him the name “Clarence Neville” – with Clarence being the name of the street he was found on, and Neville the name of his rescuer.

Clarence was micro chipped and ear-tagged and released back into the wild this morning.
