Driver seriously injured after truck exploded into flames on western Sydney street

A truck driver has suffered burns to his face, neck, arms, and airways after the front of his vehicle exploded in Sydney's western suburbs.

Just before midday, the truck burst into flames on Church Street in Lidcombe.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was rushed to Concord Hospital in a serious condition.

"The driver suffered significant burns to his body and paramedics, with the help of police and firefighters, did a fantastic job of quickly treating his injuries at the scene," Inspector Kevin McSweeney from NSW Ambulance said.

"Burns are always serious, especially when a patient's airways are impacted as this can cause breathing complications.

"The man was treated on scene and taken to the specialist burns unit at Concord Hospital."
