Liberal senator questions Defence cuts

A Liberal backbencher has questioned how the government plans to grow the Defence budget at the same time as preparing to cut 1000 civilian jobs in the department.

Senator Zed Seselja is meeting with department secretary Dennis Richardson on Thursday demanding to know how a coalition promise to grow the department fits with the proposed cutbacks.

"Of course that will need more public servants over time," Senator Seselja told ABC radio.
