Liberal MP appointed to key committee

Liberal MP Eric Hutchinson has been appointed to the parliament's selection committee, which determines which private member's business is debated.

The committee will meet in Canberra on Tuesday night to determine whether a bill to allow same-sex marriage should be introduced next Monday.

Mr Hutchinson - who represents the Tasmanian seat of Lyons - replaces the late West Australian MP Don Randall on the committee.
