Liberal chiefs are set to meet for the first time since the leadership spill and leaking of a critical letter from the party's honorary treasurer.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and other members of the Liberal Party federal executive will meet in Canberra on Friday.

The meeting comes two weeks after the party's key fundraiser Philip Higginson signalled his resignation in a scathing letter to party officials, leaked to the media.

Mr Higginson described the party as having a "much diminished brand" and facing "leadership travails" and a lack of trust among major donors.

He also called for an end to the conflict of interest of having federal party director Brian Loughnane married to Mr Abbott's chief of staff Peta Credlin.

The meeting is also expected to discuss the March 28 NSW state election.
